Panaji, October 2025 – Six persons from Maharashtra were rescued in two separate incidents along the popular Baga-Calangute coastal stretch during the weekend, which saw increased footfalls of tourists and locals alike to the state’s beaches, despite the heavy unseasonal rains during the period.

Baga beach – Four teenagers from Nashik, including three minors, were rescued from drowning off the popular beach, after they got caught in a rip current. The four persons were a part of a group of 20 students, who had previously ignored the on-duty lifesavers’ instructions to not venture into deep water. After they were caught in a rip current, all the four persons started struggling to stay afloat. Noticing their plight, lifesaver Suryakant Paryekar initiated the rescue with a rescue board, assisted by supervisor Vinod Gaonkar (rescue tube), Nandakishor (rescue board) and Jitendra Giri (rescue tube). All victims were safely brought back to shore unharmeD.

Calangute beach (Missing Children Traced): Three children, who had gone missing in separate incidents at Calangute beach, were reunited with their parents and guardians by Drishti Marine lifesavers. These included a five-year-old boy who was reported lost by his father at Calangute beach, was reunited with his parent, after an extensive search operation. In another incident, a five-year-old boy, this time from Nagpur, was safely reunited by lifesavers with his father after the former went missing at a crowded stretch at the beach.

Drishti Marine lifesaver Sunil Matondkar’s quick thinking helped trace a 12-year-old boy, a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, at Calangute beach. While patrolling, Sunil spotted the boy entering the water alone. When questioned, the boy said that he had travelled alone to Goa from Mumbai. Sunil and beach marshal Raghunath brought him to the safety of the lifesaver tower on the beach and later handed him over to the police authorities.
