Panaji, February 2025: Fourteen people were rescued from drowning off Goa’s coastline over the weekend, including three triple rescues. During the same period, Drishti Marine lifesavers provided first aid to four individuals, including a UK national bitten by a dog at Mobor beach, and reunited two children with their families.
Baga: A triple rescue was executed off Baga beach, where three male individuals in their early twenties from Maharashtra were rescued by lifesavers Chandan Giri with a rescue board, Sourabh Kumar and Akash Fulkar with rescue tubes and Vinod Gaonkar on a jet ski. Another single rescue incident took place off the same beach, where a 38-year-old male from Mysore was rescued by lifesaver Sundav Singh with a rescue board.
Agonda: Lifesavers conducted a triple rescue off Agonda beach, saving two Goan men, both aged 28, and a 30-year-old male from Bihar. The three individuals were playing with a frisbee in the water, even after receiving a warning to exit, and got caught in a rip current. They were brought to shore by lifesavers Bhikash Velip and Shekhar Velip with a rescue tube.
Mandrem: Three individuals from Mapusa – a 30-year-old male and two females aged 25 and 29 – were rescued by lifesavers Jitan Girap with a rescue board and Vikas Masurkar with a jet ski, after getting pushed further from shore by strong waves.
Calangute: Lifesaver Kartik Naik rescued two men, a 30-year-old from Maharashtra caught in a rip current and a 27-year-old from Karnataka, with assistance from Sanjay Yadav. An eight-year-old Nepali boy, missing from Calangute beach, was found at Candolim by Jaiprakash Chakraborty and safely reunited with his family.
Candolim: An inebriated 40-year-old Tamil Nadu man sank under the water off Candolim beach, but was swiftly rescued by Vikas Salgaonkar. Oxygen was administered before he was taken to Candolim Health Centre.
Colva: Lifesaver Paresh Gaude rescued a struggling 24-year-old from Bengaluru. A 20-year-old from Bihar, who sustained a head injury after jumping into shallow water, received first aid.
Majorda: A 41-year-old male from Jaipur sustained an internal injury to his leg and was unable to walk after the banana boat he was on flipped over. On approaching lifesavers for aid, he was transported for treatment in the Drishti Marine patrolling vehicle to a nearby medical facility.
Sinquerim: An individual felt ill due to fluctuating air pressure. The person was stabilised with the help of a spine board by lifesavers Achani Pamega and Amir Gaonkar and transported to a nearby hospital.
Mobor: A 64-year-old male from the United Kingdom sustained a bite on his thigh from stray dogs while jogging along Mobor beach. He was given first aid by lifesaver Sandesh Gaonkar and sent for further treatment.
Benaulim: An eight-year-old boy from Davorlim in Margao was reunited with his family by lifesaver Srikant Velip.
